We are a Multi-specialty Hospital situated in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. This was initially started as a small clinic on Palace Road, Madurai by our Chairman, Dr MACS Rajendran. Now it is has grown into one of the leading Hospitals in Southern Tamil Nadu.
SHENBAGAM – A BRIEF TIMELINE
Shenbagam Clinic was started by Dr. MACS Rajendran as a small setup on Palace Road, Madurai. It consisted of 5 patient rooms, 1 consultant room, small dispensary and Operation Theatre.
Our Founder-Chairman Dr. MACS Rajendran introduced X ray facilities, Lab and ECG as a separate unit in a building at East Gate.
The construction of Shenbagam Nursing Home as it presently stands started in 1975 under the supervision of Engineer Sri A. Arumugasamy. Er. Jambulingam and Er. Sridharan.
The Hospital was inaugurated by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Sri M. Bakthavatsalam in a joyous occasion. This was the Second private hospital to be built in the city.
With the growth of the Hospital, a lab complex was built opposite to the Hospital. It accommodated a clinical lab, X ray unit, ECG, Ultra sonogram, Physiotherapy and a Pharmacy.
In this year a team headed by Dr P.Soundarapandian, Nephrologist started performing Renal Transplantations with the assistance of Dr. Sivaraman, Urologist, Dr. R.Duraisamy, Urologist and Dr. T.S. Sathyamoorthy, General Surgeon. They successfully performed 35 transplants in this period. Our Chairman, Dr MACS Rajendran also played an important role in performing these life saving transplants.
Dr. MACSR Surendran joined the Hospital after completing Gastro surgical studies in the UK and Coimbatore. He introduced Laporoscopy,Video Endoscopy, ERCP and Colonoscopy surgeries in the Hospital and strengthened the surgical work done here.
Dr. MACSR Sathish joined the team and with his arrival the Ortho and Trauma Department improved greatly.
The year 2002 marked a huge milestone as we celebrated our Silver Jubilee Anniversary. Major expansion of the Hospital was completed with new Operation Theatre Complex, ICU, OP Block and Suite rooms. Grand celebrations took place at Raja Muthiah Mandram and an illustrious panel consisting of Minister Sri. Kalimuthu, Dr SS Annamalaisamy, Dr MACSR Surendran, Dr Sam C. Bose, Mr SKT Ramachandran, Dr MACS Rajendran, Mr VNCT Chidambaram Chettiar, Dr Venkatasamy, Dr KN Vasudevan and Mr VNCT Valliappan presided over the function.
The Shenbagam Trust and Sironmaniammal Health and Education Trust was started by Dr MACSR Surendran to extend help to the less fortunate. With Diabetes and the Diabetic Foot being a personal passion of Dr MACSR Surendran, the same year MVD was inaugurated in the building opposite the Hospital. In the year 2012, under his guidance MVD became Shenbagam Diabetes Clinic as we had surrendered our franchise for the former.
The Shenbagam Nursing School was started by our Managing Director, Dr MACSR Surendran in 2008 and the first batch consisted of 7 students. The School is sponsored by the Sironmaniammal Health and Educational Foundation. Now it has grown to include many more pupils in its ranks.
With the continual hard work of Dr MACSR Surendran, NABH Coordinator, Mrs Janaki Geetha and all our Staff, Shenbagam Diabetes Clinic received NABH accreditation in 2017 and we have the honour of being the first clinic to receive it in Tamil Nadu and the second in India. This year Shenbagam completed 50 years and our founder Dr MACS Rajendran also completed half a decade of selfless service to society.
